I hear too much chatter from Boatramp All Americans on how much better it is to fish with live bait. At first I agree, live bait will get more strikes, but are those few extra strikes worth the hours it takes sometimes to get bait. If you are in a tournament, maybe it merits all that work, but simple offshore trips dead bait is way more efficiant.
Its simple, for pleasure fishing I would rather spend more time fishing and less time acquiring bait. The results are not even close to being twice as productive with live bait than it is with fresh rigged. I know a well full of silver is ideal. But unless Im fishing competitively Im not gonna spend 2 or 3 hours getting bait.
I hear these weekend warriors at the boatramps bragging about hunting bait for 2 hours to produce a single Mahi. I give em the thumbs up, I dont hate-on. But I cant help but think, "dude you just spent two hours to catch a fish that very well would have hit a dead bait."
Ive done more lunker slaying with deadbait on off years than most of these chumps will see in a lifetime. Then again, Im not using circle hooks either.
